Electrical Systems Design and Coordination provides tray, raceway, cable, and rack installation design, coordination, and University technical representative (UTR) support for site-wide accelerator construction, experiments, upgrades, "down time" improvements and periodic maintenance. They ensure raceway and cable compliance with the National Electrical Code and other safety requirements. The Section participates with other groups to keep the CAPTAR cable and rack database up-to-date.
The Cable Shop provides installation and repair support for the miles of cables and cabling systems installed on SLAC, build rack systems and create cable assemblies. With a Job Order the group can install cables as delicate as fiber optic or timed cable runs to cables hefty as 700 kcmil or water cooled bus, complete with terminations and tags. The group installs cable trays, wireways, electrical metallic tubing (emt), rigid metal conduit (rmc) and liquidtight flexible Metal Conduit (lfmc). Capabilities extend from small crimp and "idc" connections to 700 kcmil solder lugs and AMPACT connectors. Rack assembly or upgrades are provided with attention to safety and standards compliance and all metal parts bonded and grounded. All cable assemblies receive computer testing with conformance printout before delivery to save time during system checkout.
